The MN Tartan Day Cooperative
The Minnesota Tartan Day Cooperative is made up of some 14 participating Scottish organizations in Minnesota. Our goal is to promote awareness of the Tartan Day celebration, Scottish heritage in Minnesota, and the vital role that Scottish-Americans have played in our state. Since 1999, Minnesotans of Scottish heritage have gathered on Tartan Day at the State Capitol in St. Paul to publicly recognize the contributions of Minnesotans of Scottish Heritage and to celebrate Scottish culture with music, dancing, and song. April 6th was chosen as the date for Tartan Day because it was on that date in 1320 that the Declaration of Arbroath was signed, a document often regarded as the Scottish Declaration of Independence.
We encourage all Minnesotans, whether Scots or not, to join us as we proudly celebrate our heritage. And if you can't attend in person, be sure to wear your tartan and a Tartan Day Button!
