From BabsFayth at aol.com Thu Jan 29 16:27:08 2004 From: BabsFayth at aol.com (BabsFayth@aol.com) Date: Thu Jan 29 16:30:15 2004 Subject: [Scottish News] SCOTTISH NEWS IN MINNESOTA Vol. 4, No. 29, February 1, 2004 Message-ID: <1f0.1840568b.2d4ad4ac@aol.com> Hello Everyone So you think it's cold where you are???? My secret agents in Duluth reported -29 degrees this morning with a wind chill of -54 degrees. Did you see the little minus signs? That's BELOW ZERO! That's downright Alaskan or at the very least Canadian. Get out the snuggies, hand-warmers, and the flask with a wee tot if you venture outside the cozy comfort of your home today. YIKES! And not much let up before next week! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so Monday is Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney Phil (http://www.punxsutawneyphil.com/ )is yanked out of his cozy winter hibernation den and forced to predict when we might expect spring. Or if we will have six more weeks of Winter. Has anyone ever looked at the calendar? Six weeks of winter falls right around March 21, the traditional FIRST DAY OF SPRING! That having been said, we Minnesotans are on to this chubby cat from Pennsylvania. Shadow or no shadow we know, best case scenario, that we are looking at least 3 more MONTHS of winter or at the very least "tough sleddin'." Cheer up! High humidity and droves of mosquitoes are just around the corner. Yup, it's not February 1st, but here is the SNIM in your mailbox anyway. We have a couple of wonderful events coming up on January 30 and January 31 and we want to be sure everybody gets a reminder in time to make those plans. Eva McClellan is new West Central Regional Director for Clan MacLellan Eva writes: I recently became the West Central Regional Director for Clan MacLellan. This was one of the reasons I had to decline reelection to the MCSC Board of Directors. I need to devote more time to my clan. I guess I'll be traveling around a lot more, the region is made of MN, WI, IA, MO, IL, & MI. I've never been to events in the other states, it'll be interesting to see what goes on outside Minnesota. Congratulations Eva, we know you will be great and represent Clan MacLellan outside our borders in fine style. They are lucky to have you. FEATURE Wild Bill Returns to Scotland to see his chum Johnny Cunningham Off Proper-Like It was a long flight via Iceland and into Glasgow, got the train to Troon and met up with my son Danny and his lass for the trip to Belfast, stayed the night in the Ardoyne and had a good Ulster Fry for breakfast, then on to Dublin to meet old friends. After a couple of days rest, took the train to Limerick and spent a fun few days with my mam and auntie Betty who was scouring the local butchers looking for pig's tails for her dog (whether the dog eats them or wears them was not made clear) Then back to Dublin and off to Scotland where we had a great time at Johnny Cunningham's memorial, some 600 showed up and filled the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. I met up with folk I hadn't seen in 20+ years and later shared a taxi back to the hotel with Mich?el and Triona O' Domhaill who were so drunk they couldn't speak English, it was a blast. A session at the Bruntsfield Hotel lasted till 5 in the morning and we only got up the next day to have a couple of pints in Bennett's Bar and find the famous Samson's kebab shop (good as ever!) Saw my old mate Mick Campbell the next day, (first time in 12 years) then drove down to Cumbria to see Uncle Walter - he's just grand, had a session in the local pub with him and Gordie Jones ex- Silly Wizard who we were staying with. Had to drive north through a blinding snow storm to get back to Glasgow for the flight out, 6 hour lay over in Iceland, then back to Mpls to sleep longtime. So all is well here except the jet-lag, all things considered we had a mighty time, le gr?, Bill Watkins - former pub keeper, Molly Quinn's AND IN CLOSING If you have coming events, news, or announcements you would like included in future issues, please send the information to us and we will publish in the next issue.
