November 4, 2005, Friday, 8:00 p.m. Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas, Cedar Cultural Center Alasdair Fraser's mastery of the Scottish fiddle combines with the youthful virtuosity of cellist Natalie Haas for a dynamic and captivating show. Their CD Fire and Grace won Best Scottish Traditional Music Award in 2004. Natalie's affinity for Scottish melodic nuance, driving rhythms and rich harmonies afford a sparkling interchange with Fraser. Together they are re-casting the cello in its historic role at the rhythmic heart of Scottish dance music: Scottish fiddle music of unrivalled beauty, eloquence and passion. Fraser weaves through his performance a warm and witty narrative, drawing from a deep well of stories and lore surrounding Scotland?s musical heritage. "Alasdair Fraser is recognized throughout the world as one of the finest fiddle players Scotland has ever produced. [His] name is synonymous with the vibrant cultural renaissance which is transforming the Scottish musical scene." Scots Magazine "Haas can make her instrument sound like the drone of a hurdy-gurdy, the jangle of a guitar or the thump of a string bass and she can carry the tune of fast gigs and reels as well. It is a fascinating combination, one that occasionally sounds like a baroque duo." - Robert Dawson Scott, The Times 7pm doors, 8pm show $16 adv/$18 day of show, Cedar Cultural Center, 416 Cedar Ave S, Minneapolis MN 55454, Tel: 612-338-2674 ext 0 for info, ext 2 for ticket orders using Visa or MC. _www.thecedar.org_ (http://www.thecedar.org/) 4. William Bruce, Upper Mid-West Regional Commissioner for the Name and Family of Bruce, is pleased to announce to the Scottish community and to all the readers of Scottish News In Minnesota, that a new Bruce organization has been formed, to be known as the ?FAMILY OF BRUCE ? INTERNATIONAL?. On Friday, October 14th, the leadership of both of the former Bruce organizations met in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and spent a long day in discussion and negotiation. The resulting decision was to form an entirely new organization, folding over the membership of both previous organizations into the new one. The new national organization will be incorporated in the state of Texas, as a 501c3 non-profit. The Right Honorable Earl of Elgin and Kincardine, Chief of the Name of Bruce, was represented by his lieutenant, Thomas Allen Bruce of Marietta, Georgia, (who many will remember as a guest of honor at the last Macalester Games in 2003) and has given his approval for the new organization. A new slate of national officers has been elected. William Bruce of Minneapolis will serve on the board as ?Operations Officer? and will continue as Upper Mid-West Regional Commissioner. Donald Bruce of Stillwater will chair the ? Charitable Operations Committee?. We believe that this action will strengthen our own family ties and increase our credibility in the Scottish community at all levels. Brightened my day, all day. Thanks, you two. With the celebration of St. Andrew's Day, followed very shortly by St. Nicholas Day, we charge head long into the Holiday season. It is no longer PC to say Christmas, even though we learned this morning that Christmas is a federal holiday established by President U. S. Grant (Now there is a fine Scottish name.) Therefore, we will continue to blather on about Holiday parties and Holiday doings and let others, with more time on their hands for such nonsense do battle over such things. Father Don Nesheim, St. Andrew's chaplain, offered the homily and the clergy prayer at the end of the Kirkin.
